What did I do Monday Night?

My teacher once said that we as human beings post photos of exciting things that we do on social media because we want to appear like we have exciting lives. We don’t capture the mundane things in life.
Why would we want too? My Monday nights would usually consist of doing university work, watching Netflix and eating chocolate (probably what I will be doing next week) but last night, I went to see ‘The Hunna’ (HUN-na).

Honestly, I don’t do anything exhilarating and the last time I went to a gig before this was 18 months ago which I’m pretty sure 15-year-old Hannah would be very  disappointed with…

So I thought why not blog about it? I’m no musical expert, I have no idea what an ‘Accelerando’ is or what ‘Allego’ means so I couldn’t explain why ‘The Hunna’ is pleasing to hear and Why they are addictive.

Previously. I actually read an article the other day about how some random person was suspicious about 'The Hunna' being a cult because of  how rapid they became popular...

I mean seriously who are they and how have they become such a sensation in such a fast amount of time?

With such little amount of songs out there?

How are they that good?

I mean, Their fan based grew increasingly after they toured with the ‘Coasts’ and now they are taking over Spotify(that has to be suspicious right?

So how have they done this?

Oh I don’t know, maybe by hard work?

Maybe by having good promotional team?

And just maybe it’s because their music is that damn good?

 …#
Who knows?

But it’s safe to say that the Hunna isn’t a cult.

(I hope)

So who are the Hunna?

Some of you may be reading this and thinking ‘That’s all great and all but who the bloody hell are they?’. Well the Hunna are a four-piece indie rock band who was formed by Ryan Potter (Lead Vocals and Guitar) and Daniel Dorney (Lead Guitarist). With then Jack Metcalfe who is a ‘monster of a drummer’ and Jermaine Angin who plays on Bass. According to other bloggers, they are extremely humble and friendly.  If you haven’t listened to them already, then you should because Potter’s husky voice is enough to get you addicted.

The Venue:

So I went to see ‘The Hunna’ at Thekla in Bristol. (Those of you who are reading this and live in Bristol and are a student have not been to Thekla before on a Thursday, what are you doing? What is your life? Buy One Get One Free on Drinks and not to mention that they actually play good music). Thekla is a cargo ship which is just chilling by the Harbour although once your inside you don’t actually realise it’s a ship until you end out in the smoking area. There are usually two different rooms you can go too ‘the upstairs’ and ‘the down stairs’ however It’s pretty dark inside but the sound is incredible, but my ears wasn't ringing that much after the gig which is always a positive thing.
You get a stamp when you are 18+ even though the bartender probs thought I was 14

What I wore:

Anyone who has been in a crowd knows how hot and sweaty it gets; wearing simple jeans would have just been too hot. So I wore my ‘Keya Cami Cross Over Dress’ from Boutique of Molly. And  of course I paired them with converses, you have to wear comfortable shoes! However, this dress was the last one but if you click on the link and use the Code HANN20 then you will get 20% off any item….
and that's pretty cool...
It was the last one (sorry-ish) but who says you can't rock a dress at a gig eh?

The Crowd:

Have you ever been to a gig/show where people are just standing there bored shitless or just bobbing their heads slightly and you are just standing there like ‘uhhh’? Well sorry to disappoint you but this didn’t happen at the Hunna.
Everyone and I mean literally everyone was so in to it, it just made the atmosphere amazing.
The crowd’s reaction was immense, from jumping around to everyone getting their phones out to use as lights as torches.
What was pleasing to see was how much the band were loving the audience’s reaction; even though they must have been knackered it was like everyone who was jumping around and singing along with them made them feel like they needed to keep going.
It was the fuel they needed to satisfy their hunger.
It was such an intense feeling being in the crowd when everyone you were surrounded by knew all the lyrics to each song and you could tell that some of the lyrics hit home for some people.
At one point, Ryan Potter wore one of his fans hat, he took it right off him and owned it!
It was truly a spiritual feeling when each fan would sing and dance to a song. When 'She's Casual' came on, most girls sat on some guys shoulders being swayed along (sadly not me) but it was nice to be a part of a crowd which we're not dicks and was considerate of other people.
And what was so amazing was at the end, the Hunna actually wanted to hangout with fans; they offered to smoke and chill (trust me if I didn't have to have get up at 7 am that morning I would of happily have done that) and just wanted to let their fans know that they appreciated them, which you don't really see that now!

So overall, everyone should go see the Hunna or at least listen to them.

The Beauty Myth: Why I Wear Make- Up

Being a feminist; one question which is constantly recurring is that ‘why do you wear make – up?’. Considering I go against other social norms such as not shaving my legs (*expects comments about how it’s gross*) so why do I follow this particular social convention?

Don’t get me wrong, as a child I have always been exposed to make-up. However, my mum wasn’t the type to wear heavily make – up.  Actually she’s never really wore foundation unless it was a rare occasion such as a wedding. But when it came down to it, she only really wore eye-shadow and mascara and eventually that’s where I started.

I remember it now, being 11 putting bright pink eye-shadow on the lids looking awful because I read in some magazine like ‘girl code’ or something like that telling me that the pink would make my eyes pop. I wasn’t alone in this transformation; I swear most girls wore bad colour eye-shadow at the age of 11/12.

In all honesty, my mum wouldn’t me wear foundation because of how bad it was for your skin. But what happens at the age of 12? You start to spot and all you want to do is cover it. School girls and boys could be mean and taking the mic out of spots then; well at the time it hurt. I mean now it’s laughable.

It’s extremely frustrating now when you see 13-year-old girls being able to do make-up better than you. Remember when you wore foundations 5 shades darker than you needed too and paying about £3 for a squeeze tube? Yes, me too, I remember buying my first foundation and being excited because I could finally cover my spots!
And that was it, make-up started being about hiding my imperfections instead of it being about the beauty that was already there but just being enhanced. I really wasn’t comfortable with walking around natural.

Once again, don’t get me wrong I still had days where I didn’t wear make- up I didn’t feel confident without my ‘warrior mask’ on so I was able to face the outside world.

But a month ago something changed…

I m p e t i g o

As you can see by the photos, having these marks on my face is definitely not pleasing to look at. Hand on heart, I could say that I’d rather have 6 huge spots on the end of nose than having Impetigo again. But it was a learning curve. The amount of people who asked me ‘What was wrong with my face?’ taught me it really wasn’t the worse thing in the world people looking at my face with no make - up on. Don’t get me wrong these we’re hideous and I had a lot of negative comments.

Actually, when I was out before I made a speech about how I had impetigo on my face and that’s what it was. I answered questions for them before they even asked:

Before you ask what’s on my face, I have impetigo. It’s an infection but no it’s not an STI. It is contagious but now I started antibiotics so you won’t get it, but it’s probably best to avoid skin to skin contact. No, this doesn’t mean I have poor hygiene I just didn’t clean out my wound properly. This doesn’t mean I do not shower… Are there any questions? No, OK. Good.

But one of my friends came later and eventually asked me what was on my face, meaning no harm but after a few drinks, I do become emotional and then ranted about how I wish people would stop asking me what it was…

Now you make look at my face there and think ‘Why didn’t you just use make – up?’ to cover it up. But putting foundation/powder on would have made it spread over my face even more. I even had to chuck my real technique foundation brush out (Sob). And not being able to wear foundation or powder made me feel lazy about doing things such as my eyebrows and my eye make-up.
I can’t explain why, but for some reason I just didn’t care. I actually got use to people asking me what was on my face, no-one said anything about my eyebrows being fuller or my face looking fat or ask me why I don’t wear eyeliner.

In reality, no-one gave a shit about the fact that my face being make-up less. ‘Why would they?’. The only thing people really cared about was the thing on my face. So, not wearing make-up became such a routine. That when it first cleared up, I didn’t even put any on.

So, to answer people’s question ‘for being such a feminist, why do you wear make – up?’ One) Being a feminist really doesn’t mean that I have to go against every social convention ever… Two) because I bloody well want too – as sad as it sounds, it’s actually quite therapeutic putting on make-up, it is sometimes really satisfying when you completed your eyeliner or draw your eyebrows on like you’ve achieved something. Don’t get me wrong, I do think that society was the reason I started wearing make – up but why I continue now is for my own personal enjoyment not because of ‘social pressures’.

The Versatile Blogger Award

There’s a fun little game going ’round the blogosphere and I happened to get “nominated”. If you are nominated, you give a shout out to the person who nominated you, share 7 facts about yourself, and then nominate some of your own favourite or inspiring bloggers. I've been meaning to do this post for so long but it's quite tricky thinking of 7 facts about yourself.

It’s away for other bloggers to connect and get to know each other more. So, first things first! I want to thank the beautiful Jay for all her help and support when it comes to my blog and for also nominated me to do this challenge. Seriously, go check out her blog if you haven't already!

Here are 7 random facts about myself:

September Goals

Isn’t it scary to think we have already completed a WHOLE week of September? Today, I was assigned my new time table and I completely freaked out. Reality hit me hard, that yes in two weeks I (ME!) is starting my final year in less than two weeks and It’s scary…

My third year is 75% of my overall degree and then what I do? So it’s got to count. But instead of panicking and stressing about events that hasn’t even happen yet; today I am going to share with you my personal goals (hopefully this gives me more motivation to stick too it) about what I hope to achieve at the end of September:

G O A L  O N E: P O S T  W E E K L Y

I love writing on my blog, and the last thing I want to do is neglect it and not keep connected with you all. I don’t want to lose that drive for it. So I will set aside one day a week where I write my post and then share it with you all, I really hope that when I plan it. It becomes a lot better.

G O A L  T W O: 1 0 0 %   A T T E N D A N C E

Early mornings and me do not go well, it just doesn’t mix. I struggle to fall asleep and then I wake up late. Even though staying in bed always seems like the best option at the time, I know that I will NEED to get out of bed and attended my 9 am lectures this year; good luck me!

G O A L  T H R E E: F R U I T

I always object to buying fruit because it’s so ‘expensive’ but yet ask me to buy a Domino's and I think it’s a great idea! And paying £15 for a large pizza, cookies, garlic bread and chicken strips is an absolute barging but paying £2 for fruit is scandalous! But hopefully I can count down on eating chocolate and replace the need I have for it for fruit instead.

G O A L  F O U R: T H E  G Y M

I’ve actually done well going to the gym but I know once uni start’s I’ll use it as an excuse to not go as I will be too tired or I won’t have time. However, I once read that if you ‘don’t have time you got to make time’ so even if it’s waking up an hour earlier, I will aim to make it three times a week!

G O A  L   F I V E: P H O T O ‘ S

Just because it’s my last year, this doesn’t mean I should become a total shut in and not see my friends and make memorise! I want to take more photo’s this month because this is when we will more likely see each other and do stuff before the work load becomes too much.

G O A L  S  I  X: M  Y  J  O  B

Hopefully this month I will be able to start my new job and get use too it fast; apparently the type of work I will be doing it will ‘open my eyes’ to the real world. So hopefully I will be able to start to be able to be to handle so stress won’t hit me all at once and I can start getting the dolla!

G O A L  S E V E N: B O O K S

Last year, I didn’t buy my core text books until last minitue. By the end of this month all my core text books should be purchased and at least on its way. I will also be up to date on the readings on blackboard.

G O A L  E I G H T: L E S S  M A K E – U P

I find it difficult to leave my house without any make up on but the goal here is that I won’t put foundation on this month to try and let my skin breathe. Don’t get me wrong I will still be doing my eyebrows and my eyes but I just want to see if I can go a month without putting foundation on!

What’s your goals?xo

5 Dark Disney Animal Origin Stories

If you are new to my page, then you wouldn’t be aware that a month ago I wrote a post about the 5 Creepy Origins from ‘Disney Renaissance Era’. I asked my Twitter followers which theme I should focus on next and which one people would be interested in reading…
As You Can See, Animals Won... YAY!

I was so excited when this won because I absolutely adored The Animal Themed films when I was growing up, but at the same time I was terrified about finding out about my favourite childhood films (It was bad enough when I found out Sleeping Beauty was raped). So, let’s all get prepared to rip of this bandage and get this party started!

(P.S, I haven't included the Lion King on it because I already wrote about it before, otherwise it would have been!)

N U M B E R  F I V E:  T A R Z A N

If you never wanted to be able to Swing of trees like he did when you were younger, then I will never understand you as a person or what your childhood was like. I hope that you have seen the Disney version but here is a recap of what happens: We see Tarzan with his parents out in the wild, but then his parents get murdered. By the same Animal, Kala’s son gets murdered and Kala adopts Tarzan (saving his life) to fill her missing void, Tarzan is then raised as a Gorilla – unaware of his human heritage until one day he discovers this truth when he meets Jane and Clayton. Jane falls in love with Tarzan whilst teaching him to be human and they live happily ever after together. (And Clayton dies... Yikes)

In the original story, not much is different apart from the fact Jane and Tarzan don’t have their happily ever after. In the original. Jane goes back to America – unaware how Tarzan feels about her and marries Clayton to be able to pay off her father’s debt. The more twisted thing is, Tarzan is actually Claytons cousin and his riches belongs to him... but Tarzan believes that Jane loves Clayton and when he sees them get married, he stays silent. None of them knowing how they really feel about each other and Jane stuck married to a guy she doesn’t even love...(esssh).

If you do not know the song ‘bear necessities’ I urge to listen to it and actually have some happiness in your life (however it does stay in your head for ages). But Disney recap: Similar to Tarzan, Mowgli was an orphaned baby who was abandoned in the Jungle and befriends Baloo the bear and Bagheeezra the Panther and they raise him as their own. When a man-eating tiger comes to the Jungle, Mowgli seeks shelter in a human village and instantly falls in love with a human girl and in the end decides to stay in the village.

However, in the original story when Mowgli returns to the human well let’s just say they don’t open him with open arms. Instead, they re-banish him back in to the jungle and the family which was kind to him was tortured. Mowgli, feeling extreme anger asks Hathi the elephant for help who in the book is a bloodthirsty old elephant gleefully seeking revenge on humans – so in the end They destroy the entire village with the help of the wolves…. (uh oh, they didn’t even leave the bare necessities)

N U M B E R  T H R E E: O L I V E R  & C O M P A N Y

Why should you worry? Why Should You care right? I’m 99% Oliver and Company was the reason why I want an orange kitty (Screw Garfield) but for those who need a Disney Recap: Oliver is an unwanted ginger kitten who isn’t even called Oliver until two thirds of the film. He follow’s Dodger home where he becomes a part of Fagin’s gang which is made up of all stray dogs plus a poor human who just wants to pay back a loan shark. Oliver, in the end gets adopted by Jenny, a 7-year-old girl who finds him on the street. However, Fagin's evil boss, Sykes, steps in and kidnaps the pair. However, when the ransomed kitty's "Bow-wow"-ery buddies decide to use their street savoir faire in order to rescue their kitty, they save the day and they all live happily ever after.

The original story is very loosely based on Oliver Twist, which is about an orphan boy who was mistreated and abused for most of his childhood.  After representing his fellow sufferers in an attempt to get more food, Oliver is punished and is apprenticed to Sowerberry, an undertaker. he Artful Dodger, a questionable character who brings the boy to Fagin, the ringleader of a gang of criminals. Instructed in the "art" of picking pockets. In a robbery that went wrong, Oliver gets shot but he survives and actually gets his inheritance in the end. But it’s still sad that to find out Fagan is actually a nasty man who doesn’t care about Oliver!

N U M B E R  T W O:  B A M B I

If you didn’t cry in the first five minutes of the film in Bambi, did you even have a soul? Or were you just unaware that Bambi’s mum was shot?! I do not think you would be able to call yourself a Disney fan if you have never seen this classic film. However, those who need a recap (and to seriously put it on and watch it right now) the story goes: we see Bambi’s birth and he becomes named ‘The Prince of the Forest’ as he grows, he loses his mum (geez Walt and his orphans... he loves it!) he becomes friends with other animals of the forest (aww, thumper) and learns the skills needed to survive and in the end, he finds love and leads the other deer’s to safety from hunters.

In the novel, we follow a life of a Roe Deer and we do read about the tragic loss of his mother (but that’s more near the end than it is beginning) and a lot of the story describes the harshness of nature and the cruelty of man. We read that Bambi has his first encounter with "He" (the animals' term for humans) The man raises a firearm and aims at him; Bambi flees at top speed, after he is scolded by a stag for crying for his mother, Bambi gets used to being alone at times. In mid-winter, the Hunters kill most of his deer friends, including a doe that he loved and he is left alone.

What else would have been number one? Destined to be enemies Copper and Tod (a hound and a fox) are raised together. As babies, they are more than happy to play with each other and be best buddies. However, due to social cues and peer pressure the questionable pair start to struggle to preserve their friendships. However, in the end they remain best friends forever. And everyone lives.

In the original, there are no survivors! Tod, causes the death of one of the Hunters favourite dog, he then trains Copper to ignore other Fox’s and only to kill Tod for revenge for Tod killing his favourite dog. Tod, kept surviving. Frustrated, the hunter makes Copper pressure Tod without mercy until one-day Tod collapses and then dies from exhaustion. Even though Copper was loyal to the Hunter, when he had to move to a nursing home, he kills Copper with a shotgun. (Ouch, looks like no-one had a happy ending then).

I hope you enjoyed it xo
